Harvest Moon

harvest moon.jpeg

It’s Harvest Moon tonight in the Northern Hemisphere. The first full moon after the Autumn Equinox. Autumn always feels so abundant, in a deeper more subversive way than Spring does. I feel like it’s also a time to take stock of our internal harvests, to let go of things and make space before the darkness of winter. Nature is the mistress of letting go so today the tree and her leaves outside my window were my teachers.

How do you know when it’s time?

Is it the first brush of wind or

the fullness of that last raindrop on your dry skin?

Have you no fear of falling?

Too deep in rapture of your last dance to notice your fall into grace.

In a gasp you are gone.

A shooting star,

your beauty only glimpsed from the corner of my eye.

Despite being everywhere at the moment, trying to capture a falling Autumn leaf is more difficult than it looks. They cannot be hurried, they’re elusive and random and most beautiful from a distance. Nature’s reminder that the unexpected moments are always the sweetest.
